Building Virtual Environments With Love & Care

Help me give my students rich, engaging, virtual learning experiences as we enter a new school year under less than ideal circumstances with a Macbook Pro.

My Students

My students are a diverse group of generous, imaginative, critical thinkers who come to the school setting enthusiastic to learn. They are eager to expand their learning both in and out of the classroom space. The school community is one that represents many Black and Latinx families, where over 70% of our students receive free lunch. Even more so during distance learning, my students need to be in a learning space that is engaging, warm, and safe each day.

Our school uses culturally relevant teaching and social justice philosophies, which combined with the diverse experiences of my students allow for a rich and exciting learning environment to blossom.

Their desire to grow and explore while maintaining a sense of team is something that inspires me daily as an educator. The embedded social justice elements in the curriculum empowers students to use their voices in and out of the classroom.

My Project

Our students should be able to have access to a rich, effective, and engaging learning environment, even from a distance. The Macbook would immediately eliminate some of the barriers that have manifested in the past. Frozen screens, the dreaded Mac Wheel turning for what feels like forever, and patient students slowly running out of it due to frustrating pauses have all been unneeded components in our classroom. Transitioning to a virtual learning space, it is even more important that students have access to a cooperative, working classroom nucleus, which technology has become in this moment.

The Macbook will be used as an essential tool in our classroom- to provide live and recorded virtual instruction, to create and plan differentiated lessons and other teacher made materials, and to perform tasks in the physical classroom setting like projecting information, editing media projects like student podcasts and films all without having technology refuse to work in important moments.

All of my students would benefit from this project because of the focus, participation, and materials that would be provided by the resource.
