This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I'm a 6th grade math strategies teacher and I help kids develop critical thinking skills by using the Building Thinking Classroom as my mode of teaching. In a Building Thinking Classroom, students work in random groups and collaborate to solve math problems. In this mode of teaching, students will use their math analytical skills to solve problems and persevere. They will work on a vertical surface called white board and they will share a marker. As you can see, I do this at least three times a week.

There are problems where I intentionally made it challenging but I let them think hard about it and you can see the "aha" moments and make me so proud of them.

As you would imagine, we always run out of markers at the end of each week.

I see big growth of my students already on the first 9 weeks of school. The best part of this thing is that my kids would beg me to solve problems on the whiteboard as they see it more fun and exciting to learn math .

Please help me achieve my goal by providing my classroom with markers. Thank you so much.
