This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students at BHS in Boston travel from all over the city to be here. What I love most about my students is their investment in themselves. Because of the long travel times through public transit in Boston (not ideal), many of them have trouble motivating themselves to get here on time during those cold, dark, or rainy winter mornings. I've been told countless times that my visual art classes that motivate them most to get here. Continuing long-term drawing and painting projects, and exploring new media motivates students in ways they never knew possible. This makes me strive to do better for them. They deserve the highest quality materials, and the most state-of-the-art technologies. They deserve to keep up with their suburban counterparts.

The color printer I am requesting will be a major step in helping me achieve a classroom that has every resource available for my students.

My first project will be a photo-duplication/collage project in which students will use color theory to replicate half of one of their own printed photos. From there, they will be printing photo references of all kinds from their camera phones relevant to the themes of each project. Photos that represent their place, their journey, and ultimately their own unique identities as young adults will be used as references year-round.
