When we look at the ancient world in my social studies class, I want the students to have a sense of wonder at how ancient societies were able to achieve colossal feats. A lot of students will be amazed and then unfortunately think "well I could never do that." These materials are to show students that with some clever thinking that anyone can move massive amounts of weight. The pallet jack, the furniture sliders and the lever and wheels moving set are all designed to show students that they can move mountains (almost). The kettle bells going to be used to demonstrate weight on a small scale in the class, but we will go outside to use the other tools to show how large amounts of weight can be moved by just one or two students. We have studied the pyramids in Egypt and the Mayan ruins and the great palaces of Chinese emperors and the wonders of ancient Rome and Greece. All of which were built by people who thought out the building process and used simple tools to achieve grand results.
This project is about students doing the work of our ancient ancestors to move seemingly impossible amounts of weight and at the same time instill confidence in themselves and reinforce the importance of teamwork and planning.
