Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a large, Title One, elementary school right outside of Washington, DC. We serve low-income pre-k to sixth grade students who are second (or third) language learners.
Our school staff makes the best of what we have, but our students deserve more opportunities to learn and grow, especially our talented and gifted students.
I have the honor of working with students in grades two and three for a Talented and Gifted pullout program. These unique students may get overlooked and do not often have chances to put their thinking and reasoning skills to use in a purposeful and challenging way.
My Project
This school year, our second and third grade, talented and gifted students are studying the science and construction of "Structures" in our weekly TAG (Talented and Gifted) class.
We are currently using toothpicks and marshmallows to build weight bearing structures and these engineering tiles will add some color and fun to our discovery of building.
Students have access to basic household materials as we explore building, so they would love using materials actually made for construction and engineering.
Your donation would help us design and create structures that we can display in our portfolios which were also funded by Donors Choose donors!
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Ms. Kalberer and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
