This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is a diverse inclusive classroom of low-income students aged 3 to 5. For most of my students, this is their first learning experience. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch at school. We are located in the inner city of Pittsburgh and provide a free comprehensive program that is designed to nurture and support each child as we prepare them to transition to kindergarten.
My students are very interested in learning about letters, math social studies, engineering, and science, and they enjoy exploring with technology.
They are dreamers, thinkers, and questioners and love to discover new things about the world around them. Despite the challenges they face, they come to school each day ready to work and play with smiles and positive attitudes.
My Project
Many of my students do not have the basic literacy skills necessary to do well in school. I will be providing daily work boxes to help build these skills and to prepare them for success in kindergarten and beyond.
By providing literacy materials for students to practice with daily I will be able to give them a headstart and prepare them for kindergarten.
File folder games allow students to work independently as they are building the skills necessary for kindergarten. Sorting and matching games will allow them to work both independently or with a partner. This build basic skills and social skills as they learn to share and work together.
