Building Strong Writers One Letter at a Time

Help me give my students the multisensory handwriting tools they need to build fine motor skills, form letters correctly, and become confident, independent writers.

My Project

My students are a wonderful group of learners with diverse strengths, abilities, and needs. They are curious, determined, and eager to learn, but each student is at a different point in their writing journey. Some are ready to begin forming letters and building the foundational skills needed for handwriting, while others are ready to strengthen their letter formation and begin writing words and sentences more independently.

The Handwriting Without Tears materials will allow me to meet each student exactly where they are.

The hands-on, multisensory resources will help my beginning writers develop important prerequisite skills such as fine motor control, pencil grasp, letter recognition, and learning the strokes and shapes that make up letters. The more advanced materials will help my emerging writers practice correct letter formation, spacing, and writing with greater independence.

For my students with disabilities, learning to write can take extra time, repetition, and many different ways of practicing a skill. These resources will give them the opportunity to learn through seeing, touching, building, tracing, and writing. Most importantly, they will help my students experience success and build confidence as writers—one letter at a time.
