My Project

My kindergarten students are working hard each day to build the foundational phonics and reading skills they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. During our daily phonics block and intervention groups, students need engaging, hands-on opportunities to practice letter sounds, segmenting, blending, and early reading skills in ways that feel interactive, supportive, and meaningful.

The Elkonin sound boxes are some of the most important materials in this project because they give students a visual and tactile way to hear, segment, and manipulate sounds in words.

These tools are essential for helping young learners strengthen phonemic awareness skills that directly support reading development and long-term literacy success. The dry-erase boards, markers, erasers, and reusable sleeves will allow students to actively participate during phonics lessons by writing sounds, building words, practicing handwriting, and responding in real time during instruction.

Many of my students learn best when they can physically interact with learning materials instead of only listening or watching. These resources will help create a classroom where students feel confident taking risks, practicing skills repeatedly, and learning from mistakes in a supportive environment. Having enough interactive phonics materials for small groups and intervention instruction will allow me to better support struggling readers while keeping students engaged and excited about learning to read.
