Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The children we serve in our school community are bright, kind, and eager to learn, but face many challenges outside of school-related to family financial insecurity.
We strive to meet each child's need to feel safe and well cared for by creating warm, loving, and engaging classrooms and school to support their focus on learning and growing.
We provide free breakfast, snacks, and lunch to 100% of our students as well as weekend emergency food packages for many. As a designated Community School, we offer our students access to health support services such as medical, dental, and psychological counseling.
We outreach to the families in a variety of ways to help them know they have valued collaborators in their child's academic careers by offering parent information meetings and classroom volunteer opportunities as well as special events such as Black History Night, Girls-to-Women and Boys-to-Men Nights. We offer Food and Staples Pantry afternoons to help families stock up on essentials that might not fit the budget.
I am proud to teach at a school that recognizes and celebrates the diversity of learners and works to support each child on their individual path to success.
My Project
Young children learn best during play with engaging materials. They will use the What's the Rhyme Sorting Houses to practice matching word-ending families. They will engage their senses with the Touch and Match Guessing Game. They will sort, match, count, pattern, and build with the 1-inch Color Cubes.
All of these hands-on materials will help my students gain confidence in foundational literacy, language, and math skills while they play.
We will practice these skills throughout the day: during small- and whole-group intentional teaching opportunities as well as free-choice playtimes.
Daily opportunities to learn new skills, practice them, and then move forward to more challenging skills will assure that my students have a strong foundation of knowledge to take them successfully through PreK and into Kindergarten.
