My Students

Our fourth graders come to our school for an integrated STEM education. The majority of our students are eligible for free or reduced lunch and deal with sometimes stressful lives outside of school. We try to make school a safe place for learning while pushing them each to reach their full potential.

These kids are ready for the challenges of the digital age.

We work hard to integrate all sorts of technology so that students learn to be creators, not just passive consumers, using technology tools in a variety of ways throughout the day. We learn to critically read and reflect on every type of media, from the great books in our class library to the YouTube videos they flock to in their free time. They are learning that their choices matter and that they can choose to be a part of a bright future.

My Project

Our STEM Academy introduces kids to the engineering design process early on. It encourages problem-solving and helps students take mistakes and failure as learning opportunities. Our students bring ideas through the whole process, from brainstorming, to designing and constructing a prototype, to making improvements based on testing and feedback.

We need reusable supplies to help students bring their creations to life and encourage them to tweak and improve on their ideas.

It can be discouraging to create with only tape and cardboard since you often have to start again from scratch when you identify a design flaw. Reusable supplies give them the encouragement to make improvements when a design fails, rather than abandon the project. They will be on their way to becoming real-life problem solvers!
