Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a vibrant and community centered neighborhood. Approximately ninety percent of my students are socioeconomically disadvantaged and come with a range of varying needs.
My students are a fantastic group of excited kids who are eager to learn and need more hands on activities!
Kindergarten is the first time many of my students have ever been in a classroom setting. This is their first chance to develop a love for education and begin to develop many life skills. The enthusiasm they already have is amazing and it is my job to make sure they stay enthused, engaged, excited, learning and growing life long learners.
My Project
Independence, fine motor skills, and communication are some of the essential skills kindergarteners need in order to develop into well rounded students. For between 45 minutes and an hour a day my students rotate between centers/stations working on individual skills while I pull them and meet in small groups to support their reading, language and literacy needs. Many of the stations reinforce and help them practice reading, writing, math and other essential educational skills.
This project will provide more stations that help my students improve their social emotional, English Language, math, spacial reasoning and fine motor skills.
The Playdough scissors and tools, tweezers, building bricks with Lego table, Frontier Logs, and beads with lacing strings will help students practice their fine motor skills. These are all small items that require detailed hand movements. Fine motor practice builds the ability for handwriting, cutting and more. Shoots and Ladders will help with counting and math skills. The magnetic tiles, building bricks, Frontier Logs, foam blocks and wooden train set will help students with spacial reasoning, critical thinking, and team work skills. While they build, construct and play with these tools they will be communicating with classmates. They have to talk to each other, plan and work together- all promoting their budding social skills and thinking. The bins are to store their new centers so they can easily access them on their own.
These centers foster a positive safe environment for my students to practice social and emotional learning through educational play. Using these activities my students will build social and emotional understanding, maturity, independence, and language. Students will also gain counting, spacial reasoning, geometric and fine motor skills.
Please help my students become well rounded, life long independent learners who love learning.
