it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Helping build Middle School age kids self-esteem by staying interested in physical activity.
I am a Physical Education teacher at a Pennsylvania urban K-8 public school. This school is located in a lower economic neighborhood with at least 95% low income and at least 95% get free or reduced lunch.
This school opened with not enough teachers and materials for teachers.
I was the only gym teacher until October 2007. Now March 2013 we have two teachers with two classes at a time, about 66 students at a time and not enough equipment for all. The school now has over 1100 students. The school has great kids who love to be physically active when given the opportunity.
My Project
The resources I am asking for are 5 practice volleyballs, 3 game volleyballs ,and 1 40" volleyball. All of my students love learning about volleyball. However girls and boys in 6th, 7th and 8th grades that are usually hard to motivate to participant in gym class were actually excited when they saw that we were going to play volleyball. They keep asking for more volleyball time.
Volleyball is a great game that students learn eye hand coordination, agility, sportsmanship, and builds high self-esteem, especially with girls who are self-conscious about their bodies.
Please help me keep 12,13 and 14 year old kids active by supporting my physical education program in these tough financial times. Thank you
