My Students

My students are 6th-8th graders in junior high school. Our students are great kids but are struggling with many more social/emotional issues after COVID than prior to COVID. Many of these issues are including but limited to; managing feelings, dealing with anger, coping with stress and loss, refocusing on academics, displaying appropriate behaviors and reacting appropriately to situations.

Since starting back to in-person learning this year, our school has dealt with the above issues at an alarming rate compared to the time period prior to COVID.

I would like to address these issues by working closely with the students that seem to be struggling the most in these areas. I would like to utilize the WhyTry (Social/Emotional) program as well as the Resilience for Youth program.

My Project

Our students are really struggling with social/emotional issues since COVID and are lacking the skills to be resilient and push through many of the obstacles they are facing. This program will give them tools to be more resilient as well as give them a better outlook on their thought process for the future. Many students have given up academically and are not putting any effort into their future. My project will be designed to push through the obstacles they are facing in life and find a purpose to succeed for themselves. In addition, it will build skills in relationships and controlling their impulses. Standard 1.8.1 in Health standards would be an example of a content area standard covered. (Analyze health behaviors and personal health).
