My students are creative, hard working and fabulous artists and performers! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects! They come to school each day ready to try new things and become their best selves. My students are a very diverse group of children with one thing in common - they all attend an urban, public Montessori school. Eighty-one percent of the students qualify for free lunch and 88% of the students are a racial minority.
We follow the teachings of Maria Montessori to meet the needs of the whole child - physically, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually through following and allowing the child to guide his or her learning.
I am fortunate to be in a school that sees the arts as an integral part of the child's development and provides students with the opportunities to problem solve creatively.
Our school is nestled just north of downtown Indianapolis. Our students have many different versions of urban living, but are united in Montessori education. We strive to create in a peaceful environment.
My Project
My students often come to art with the idea that things have to be perfect. In a world where filters make our photos perfect instantly, and images we see are finished to perfection, students often become frustrated with the process of working and building up skills.
I am seeking to add some tools to the art room that will assist the students with practicing their drawing skills.
I would like to add light pads, so that students can trace and build muscle memory. I would also like to add dry erase boards, so that students can practice drawing with out wasting paper. After tracing in pencil my students love to go over their drawings with permanent markers, preferably sharpies.
Your donation will help purchase these engaging art supplies and open a door to a world of learning and imagination that my students so desperately need.
