Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 31 third graders in a small, rural town. My students are always so eager to learn, but most lack access to major stores and funds to help make them successful. On top of teaching in a rural area, I am also teaching a group of students that have a wide range of abilities. Some students are already showing mastery of 3rd grade, while many are still learning basic phonics skills.
In this class, we build a community around what we have and who we have to share it with.
Our small school practices inclusion. This allows students with disabilities that are served by special education to remain in the classroom and improve academic and functional outcomes.
My Project
Many of my students require audio and text-to-speech. The headphones will allow them to listen to stories, questions, and answer choices as many times as needed.
We have lots of writing work to do.
My students have lots of handwriting and spelling work. The whiteboards, Post-its, and sentence strips will help make our group and individual writing time more efficient. This will also help students to put their thoughts and ideas on paper. Of course, we have to keep those pencils nice and sharpened as well.
