Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
An important part of motivating young readers is having a well stocked school library. If we want our students to love reading, then our school library needs to be stocked with books that they will love to read.
Our school serves a predominantly low-income student population.
84% of our students are low-income, and 59% live at or below the poverty line. Our charter school strives to ensure that all of our students graduate prepared to attend the college of their choice. Despite the challenges that come with teaching in a low-income community, 95% of our students go on to attend a four year college upon graduation.
My Project
The students at our school love to read. Unfortunately, our school library doesn't have all of the books that they want to read. The books requested in this grant will begin to fill some of the gaps in our school library's collection. Most of the books requested in this grant are either Caldecott honor books or classic novels, both of which are essential components of any well-stocked school library.
A great school library needs to evolve in order to maintain a high level of excitement around reading throughout a child's education.
Please help me and my colleagues continue to inspire a love of reading in our students by funding these new books for our school library.
