My school is a community school located in an urban area of Knoxville, Tennessee. The students come from diverse backgrounds and each have their own story. Many of my students spend the majority of their day at our school whether it be at an after school club or tutoring. Which is why the staff and myself work extra hard to make our school a place where students want to be. We strive to make our students feel welcomed, safe, loved, and cared for. My first graders love to learn through playing interactive games, using manipulatives, and technology whenever possible.
My Project
Ever since I attended a conference in February I have wanted to bring VersaTiles to my first graders. The VersaTiles are absolutely amazing and can be used in small groups as well as by students independently in centers. These VersaTiles will also provide my students with the ability to self check their center work.
Building fact fluency within my first graders is extremely important.
Learning math facts isn't always the easiest for students so adding these engaging games and activities will help to make practicing math facts more enjoyable.
Adding these VersaTiles and math fact activities will be a great asset to my first grade classroom. With these activities I strongly believe that will my students will be able to continue to build upon their math foundation.
