Help me give my students a classroom library full of stories they are interested in and that are representative of their identities and topics they are passionate about.
My second grade students are a beautifully diverse group of learners that are creative, driven, and curious about the world around them. Throughout the year they have grown so much as readers, and love any opportunity to explore a new book. They especially love books that explore the stories of people from diverse backgrounds, so I am always looking to find books that explore different identities and people's experiences. As a first year teacher, I am still working on building my library and ensuring each student has plenty of books to choose from.
As we near the end of the school year, I now have a deeper understanding of the types of books my students love the most, and I would love to continue to grow my classroom library and give them access to books that spark their interest and deepen their love of exploring literature.
Through this project, I am hoping to provide my students with a diverse selection of picture books and chapter books that I know they will love! To get them even more excited for reading, I also would love for them to have "book buddies" -- stuffed animal versions of their favorite book characters that they can read with!
