My Students

There is no argument that students need a strong academic education, however, it needs to be accompanied by a strong education in financial literacy and economics from a very young age. Poverty is a complex problem all over the world! A huge contributing factor is poor or inadequate education.

My middle school students are goal-driven and open to experiencing the world.

When given the opportunity to learn and experience real world experiences, they take it very seriously. They come from low income families in the city and all meet the requirements for free and/or reduced lunch. They are bused to school from all over the city. Our school is a K-8 public charter school with a student population of approximately 615. Our school focus is on a rigorous data-driven academic curriculum with an equally strong emphasis on financial literacy education beginning as early as K4. Many of our students come from single parent families or families where a grandparent is Head of Household. Our students love to learn and they especially want to learn how to manage their money!

My Project

The resources we request are to help move this group of student entrepreneurs to the next level. Students receive training in financial literacy through our Millionaires Club which runs once per week after school. Sometimes we meet on weekends depending on the training! The teaching cart will help make that transition much easier. The portfolios and display stands are needed to showcase student work as they market their expertise to customers. Students have a working portfolio which can be sent to sponsors upon request. Students worked to write their own business plan and now they see how it works!

Our Millionaires Club is an intensive financial literacy, investing and entrepreneurship program for middle school students.

Club members develop an entrepreneurial project as an experiential approach to learning about business while generating modest amounts of income. All students involved in the Click 'Em Photography project begin in the Millionaires Club. It is urgent that kids are taught how to handle finances at a young age and allowed to "think outside the box" as young entrepreneurs!
