My Students

I have the privilege of working at a suburban Preschool-2 school in Connecticut. Students are extremely diverse and unique in their learning needs. My district encourages us to learn, explore, and try new strategies to help students succeed. Finding opportunities to improve student learning requires me to be an active learner!

My students are kindhearted, yet lack strategies to self-regulate in a mindful way.

They come with many unique needs, preferences, and I work to support them on their lifelong learning endeavor.

My Project

Through action research, I have found that students of all backgrounds are extremely visually stimulated and need help self-regulating when feelings build and become uncomfortable. I have been working with students to build strategies to help them practice through tricky situations through daily breathing practice.

Through this project, students will have necessary tools to learn strategies to monitor their mind and body throughout their day.

We need books to showcase strategies of being mindful individuals, as well as a Hoberman sphere to engage students in taking deep breaths to calm down, as well as increase oxygen flow. Cards for students to choose poses to stretch their bodies based on what they feel they need. In our calm down space, students will need materials such as sensory balls and other materials to use when taking a break to clear their minds when they are losing focus or have building emotions. This will help them become independent problem solvers. Sand timers will be used for students to manage their time in the calm down area. With decreasing supply budgets and cuts, I am unable to provide these necessary materials to help students become advocates for themselves. Without help from compassionate donors, all students will become more mindful of their choices and the impact they have on others.
