Using weights in the context of exercise, specifically resistance training, offers numerous benefits for our students looking to improve their overall fitness, achieve specific health and fitness goals, and improve their behavior and mental moods.
Here are some of the key benefits of using weights:
Using resistance training with weights is one of the most effective ways to build muscle strength and size.
The stress placed on muscles during weightlifting promotes the development of muscle fibers, leading to increased strength.
Weight-bearing exercises, including those involving weights, can contribute to improved bone density. This is particularly important for preventing osteoporosis and maintaining bone health, especially as individuals age beginning with our middle school students.
Next, resistance training can help reshape the bodies of students by reducing body fat and increasing their lean muscle mass. This can lead to a more toned and defined appearance, and reduce mental anxieties within themselves.
Also, strength training can contribute to improved endurance, not only by making muscles stronger but also by improving the efficiency of energy utilization during physical activity. It can also increase their mental health as well.
The exercises, including weightlifting, have been shown to have positive effects on mental health. It can help reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression. The sense of accomplishment and the release of endorphins during exercise contribute to an overall mood and performance in the classroom too! We are specifically asking for new weights for the fitness room to help students deal with mental health issues. We are also asking for pull-up/dip stations.
