This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are bright, curious learners with visual impairments who thrive when learning is hands-on, interactive, and connected to real life. During our summer program, we focus on strengthening academic skills while also helping students build independence, confidence, and social interaction skills in a supportive environment. Many of our students learn best through tactile materials, games, repetition, and collaborative activities that allow them to engage all of their senses.

This project will provide engaging math, literacy, and financial literacy resources specifically designed to make learning accessible, meaningful, and fun for students with visual impairments during our summer enrichment program.

The bingo games for multiplication, addition, and sight words will transform academic practice into exciting group activities that encourage participation and peer interaction. Students often need repeated exposure to concepts in order to master them, and game-based learning helps keep them motivated while reinforcing foundational math and reading skills. The dry-erase markers will support daily instruction, tactile demonstrations, and interactive lessons on classroom boards and adapted materials.

The financial literacy materials, including budgeting books, spending money books, pretend play money, wallets, and budgeting games, will help students practice important life skills in a concrete and engaging way. Many students with visual impairments benefit from explicit instruction in money management and real-world problem solving. Through role-playing, budgeting activities, and hands-on practice, students will learn how to identify money, make spending choices, and understand budgeting concepts that promote future independence.

These materials will make a lasting impact by helping students strengthen academic foundations while also developing practical life skills that they can use beyond the classroom. Most importantly, these resources will create joyful learning experiences where students feel successful, included, and empowered.
