My students need center activities to help build foundational skills for reading. In addition, they need ink for our classroom printer so we can print materials and books in color and in black and white.
My students attend a Title I, New York City public school K-5 with a very diverse student population. All of my students receive free lunch and a vast majority of them will be first-generation college graduates. Many students in my classroom are English Language Learners who come from hard-working families that want only the best education for their children.
I have 27 students in my kindergarten class that are eager to learn to read and write every day.
Many of my students are English Language Learners who need as much support as they can get. Without the right tools, it is difficult to reach all learners. No matter their background, my students come to school with big smiles, excited to learn and explore new things.
My Project
These materials will help my students learn letter recognition, letter formation, and pre-reading skills that are necessary to build strong readers. In addition, it will allow our class to have ink to print colored books and center activities throughout the year. Lastly, my students will be able to use ocean animal as a fun math manipulative to explore counting, 1-1 correspondence, and sorting.
Each year my students are eager to learn to read.
With these new center activities, my students will be given the opportunity to explore early reading skills to help them succeed.
The centers include letter formation, magnetic letters to build words, ink to print additional centers and books for the classroom, and ocean animal counters to help build important math skills.
