Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of my students are bright, young, bilingual learners in a special day class! In the heart of East Oakland, these students come from diverse backgrounds. This Title I school is full of educators who focus not only on academic learning but on the social and emotional needs of students as well. As part of my students' learning, I incorporate a lot of sensory activities with concrete models.

My Project

Help my students build their literacy skills by providing them with the gift of books, alphabet games, word games, and Alphabet manipulatives. Most of my students are non-verbal and need alternative ways to learn I have also included social-emotional stories to help my students learn about social situations as we learn new words. This project incorporates a lot of various literary needs that fit their particular, unique learning needs as my class is special needs. My students enjoy interactive materials such as puppets, magnetic letters, and games like Zingo. The magnetic letters will help my students learn word families and basic beginning sounds. I look forward to letter lessons where they match the letters to each other or use sticker letters to spell out their names. I have also included a basic ASL word picture cards to help my non-verbal students communicate.

These books will help with emotional learning as my students learn how words are formed. I look forward to reading Julia Cook's books on emotional control to my class.
