I teach in an inner city public school which houses a program for Autistic Impaired Learners. We have a diverse population of students with various Autism Spectrum disorders. My classroom consists of 20 children. All my students are the most kind and hard working you will ever meet. Watching how all students accept one another for their unique and beautiful differences is truly amazing. They make me proud to be their teacher and come in everyday to help them grow socially and academically.
It is essential that students master foundational reading skills that will allow them to become proficient readers. The best way to do this is to teach students what they need to know and not waste their time completing activities that contain skills they already know. Through assessment, I know where my students are and where they need to go but having just right activities for my diverse learners in a necessity.
I am asking for multilevel reading activities that I can use in our literacy centers so that all of my students are working at their levels and meeting their specific needs.
The resources that I am requesting all have something in common, they are engaging, fun and address specific skills. Children love puzzles and will be learning and interacting with Scholastic Teacher's Friend Beginning Sounds Learning Puzzles, DD Wooden Jigsaw Puzzles Winding Snake Toys Letter & Numbers Puzzles, Star Right Self-Correcting Spelling Puzzle, Cards Puzzle Synonym Matching, Cards Puzzle Silent Consonants and Fun-to-Know® Puzzles. Other activities like Pop for Sight Words, Learning Mats and Eureka Tub Of Word Tiles will help with skills my students need to master and reinforce by the end of first grade.
Having all these wonderful resources will make a huge difference in meeting all the needs of my students and assist them in becoming proficient readers.
