The students in my school are eager, energetic, and come with a variety of prior knowledge and learning experiences. They live in an urban, small city rich in history and culture. This Title I school is a historic landmark building set in a historic part of the city. The building is more than 100 years old.
All students receive free breakfast and lunch daily, and some families live in subsidized housing.
We have a before school program for working parents to drop off their students and an after school tutoring service for students needing extra academic support. Our dedicated faculty and staff work diligently and tirelessly every day to provide our students with the best, rigorous education to meet the challenges of today's fast-changing world and beyond.
I am hosting three virtual Literacy Lounge parent/family workshops this year to encourage literacy at home. I am highlighting social emotional learning (SEL) books during the pandemic because many of our families are greatly impacted by Covid-19.
I want to give raffle prizes that are hands-on and not a plug-in or electronic device since the children are on-screen on their Chromebooks all day for their remote learning now during Covid-19.
I like to raffle off door prizes for participating families as an incentive for their participation during evening hours. Giving them Lego sets as raffle prizes will be great prizes for families at my school. Lego sets will a toy the students can enjoy over and over again and will allow them to use their imagination to build anything they wish.
