My Students

To those so steeped in negativity and misguided aspirations what value can we place on a hero, triumph, and inspiration.

My students live in a neighborhood well known as one of the poorest and most gang infested communities.

Its infamy is largely based on the fact that it continually ranks as having one of the highest murder rates in the country. The students come from historically uneducated families locked in place by inter-generational poverty. Gang violence, domestic violence, and crime are regular occurrences within the lives of these kids.

My Project

However challenging their lives are, they continue to have dreams. It is our duty to guide and empower these dreams. There is so much potential in their lives. However, often their dreams are limited by what they know. These students do not have any models that exhibit success beyond MTV, basketball, and football. However, the books I have requested will inspire them with stories of true heroes and real triumph. Often times, educators spend too much time having students read books that are not of their time. They struggle to read and relate. Yet these novels allow them to focus and propel their interests. Truly inspiring literature makes a person yearn to rise up and be honorable.

In our school we are working hard to change the lives of these students.

Dramatic leaps have been made in the past two years. Academics, data, and relationships have become a focus and we are seeing progress! Yet, resources are scarce and we need your support to engender the ravenous desire for success we want these students to have. Making a donation will both touch and inspire these kids. Your influence will ripple across a sea of lives, changing their future forever.
