My Project

I teach Engineering classes to a diverse group of high school students. We have a very competitive program that is in conjunction with Project Lead the Way. One of the things they work towards is becoming industry certified in Autodesk Inventor. Learning this program gives them skills that can be used in future careers and in college.

In a world of looking at flat computer screens, what could be better than to bring their ideas into the 3 dimensional world?

Having students learn this complex program can become frustrating to some. Giving them an incentive such as being able to 3D print designs they create in Inventor can give them the motivational boost they need to learn the program and pass the certification exam.

In addition to teaching Principles of Engineering, I also have a capstone class and an engineering club for girls. These groups go through the engineering design process to create products that solve real world problems. I would like for them to have access to 3D printers so that they can create real, working prototypes of their products to test out. With this grant I am wishing purchase two 3D printers that can print in different colors as well as 3D filament.
