Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The special needs students I work with range from preschool to 5th grade and have met eligibility requirements under articulation, expressive/receptive language, pragmatics, and/or fluency. Our school is located in a rural area with a population of students eager to learn. Students Individualized Education Plan goals and/or objectives are addressed through a of variety of learning styles, hands-on materials, and cross curricular resources. Speech and/or Language therapy assists students with establishing a solid foundational base for effectively communicating in the world in which we live.

My Project

Students will utilize these materials to build and expand language skills in the subject area of mathematics. Specifically, requested manipulatives allow for the exploration and comprehension of numerous math concepts such as quantities, fractions, money denominations, counting, etc. Language skills within the area of math exhibited through manipulation of these requested items including comprehending simple to complex directions, sequencing, interpreting information, solving number problems, weight, interpreting mathematical input, building vocabulary, etc. These manipulatives assist with developing understanding of strong math vocabulary terms through hands-on activities (i.e., sum, difference, pounds, ounces, multiplication, adding, subtracting, dividing, fraction, numerator, denominator, digit, dollar, quarter, penny, nickel, dime, division, dividend, divisor, quotient, product, factor, greater than, less than, equal, balance, etc.). These materials will help support educational growth in building functional language and math skills.
