This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I teach in a special education preschool classroom with 6 special education students and 6 general education students. I have an exciting bunch of little ones this year! They love to create, imagine, and discover with each other. They encourage each other to complete tasks, help each other when they notice a friend needs assistance, and loudly point out changes within the classroom (things they like and don't like). Their inquisitive minds and strong personalities keep me on my toes! I love each and every morning being greeted with their smiles, open arms and excitement to be at school!
Our school has a population of students where 91% live below the poverty level, and of those, 41% are homeless, living in nearby shelters or doubled up with other family members.
While my class has 12 students, we have 3 preschool classrooms in our school totaling 44 preschoolers. We are dedicated to providing a welcoming, safe learning environment with engaging materials that include the interests of our students! We collaborate daily, share materials, and are passionate about educating our youngest students!
