My Project

My students are creative, determined, and eager to learn new skills that challenge them to think in different ways. Many of them thrive when given opportunities to work together, solve problems, and participate in hands-on activities that build both confidence and teamwork. I love watching their excitement grow as they discover new strategies, encourage one another, and celebrate their progress.

This project, Building Critical Thinkers Through Chess, will provide students with chess games, instructional materials, and snacks to create a positive and engaging afterschool learning environment.

Chess helps students strengthen critical thinking, problem-solving, concentration, patience, and decision-making skills. The instructional resources will guide students as they learn the rules, strategies, and techniques of the game, while the chess sets will allow them to practice and apply those skills through friendly competition and collaboration.

The snacks will also play an important role by helping students stay focused, energized, and motivated during afterschool sessions. Together, these resources will create a supportive space where students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally while developing skills that will benefit them both inside and outside the classroom.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
