My Students
My students are Kindergartners in an inner city school district.
For many of my students, this is their first school experience.
My school has moved out of Turn Around Classification after seven years of hard work and dedication. We are making big changes in the education of our students and want to continue our trajectory upward.
I want my students to leave kindergarten with a love of school and a passion for learning. For my students, school is a safe place where they can be themselves and learn. I hope to encourage this love of learning in my students through engaging lessons, materials and hands-on field trips/activities.
My Project
Many of my students enter into kindergarten lacking experience with non-technology toys, games, and play. This impacts their creativity and fine motor skills, and can even effect their academic performance. I would like to have a LEGO set in our classroom for students to use during indoor recess.
A LEGO set will allow students to build fine motor skills and creative thinking.
It will also encourage students to play together and share, helping them to build interpersonal and social skills. Students need options of ways to express themselves through play. We currently have limited options of toys, games, and activities for indoor recess. Having more choices for hands-on activities that can encourage fine motor and social skill development will benefit our kindergarten students greatly.
