My Students

I am a kindergarten teacher in a high-poverty school. Each day, I am greeted by 20 students who are eager to learn. For some of these students, this is their first educational experience.

I am the person that the students can turn to for help or discuss an event that has occurred in their life.

When children feel comfortable, they are more apt to grow and learn. I am always willing to help a student when the student asks for additional instruction. I need to answer all the questions the students have.

Kindergarten is the place to be! We love having the opportunity to learn with hands-on activities and experiences. Every student is allowed to stretch, grow, and dream. Students can work to become whatever they imagine becoming.

My Project

My students have fallen in love with learning all the amazing secrets to reading with ‘Secret Stories’. I would love to keep this momentum for reading growing with Eye Words. These are multisensory word cards. Each card includes a picture with clues to help students decode the words. I do not want students to just memorize the sight words. I want them to have a full grasp of each word.

I am focusing my reading instruction on the science of reading this school year.

With the right tools students will have a full understanding of phonemic awareness and phonological awareness skills so that they can decode anything. They will be able to use the bingo chips and letter tiles to tap out and map any word given to them. Thank you for helping me get the tools I need to help my students get the appropriate tools in their toolbox to help them grow and become confident readers.
