Building Comprehension and Story Telling Skills With LEGOs!
Help me give my students LEGO mini figures, baseplates, and the LEGO Creative Basic building set to help us recreate stories for retelling. We will also create stories to help us with our own writing!
My students and I are so excited about learning! I teach an inclusion class of approximately 44 first grade students with my partner teacher. My responsibility is all things ELAR, but we inspire to integrate more projects that are cross-curricular. We grow so much as readers and thinkers in first grade. I try to cultivate a love for learning and reveal what makes learning new skills and information exciting and rewarding.
Our classroom loves to learn through hands-on activities!
We learn through activities. We explore and create. However, it takes a lot of resources above and beyond what a traditional classroom needs. I try to provide a lot of these, but as a teacher and mom, it's difficult and that's where I appreciate any help we can get!
My Project
We are going to use the LEGO Basic Creative set along with the baseplates and minifigures to build scenes from stories we read to reinforce our comprehension.
Hands-on learning is so important to help students apply skills they've gained in the classroom.
As we become more skilled in writing, we will build scenes with the LEGO items to help inspire our own stories.
Many of our STEM activities also involve creating using a variety of resources so these LEGO items will come in useful as students plan and create in our classroom.
