Help me give my students opportunities to engage in conversations and learning experiences about having compassion for animals, all while gaining knowledge about the importance for having compassion for animals through literature and games.
My students are struggling readers in grades three through five in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. These students need small group instruction to increase their reading level, build their fluency, develop their comprehension, and gain confidence as a reader and writer.
Student engagement is important to their reading success!
Within each small group, I am differentiating to meet the needs of all learners. From differentiating my lessons content to the students' learning environment is important to their success.
In addition, as the ELA Grade 3-6 Coordinator and Reading Specialist, I work closely with classroom teachers modifying and adjusting the ELA Curriculum to meet the needs of all our students through data collection. I also provide a variety of resources, books, and instructional strategies for my colleagues to utilize in their classrooms.
My Project
These books and games will make a difference in my students. Literature will be available to read at various reading levels to meet the needs of my students, all while about learning about how to be compassionate to animals. The games will be additional resources for my students to help build compassion and engage in activities that will immerse my students in situations of being compassionate for others.
The literature and games will be a perfect addition to our school-wide Character Education Program, providing my students opportunities to read and engage in activities and conversations about being compassionate with animals.
