Building Community With a Read Aloud

Help me give my students a sense of community while we read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane together. This book will allow their imaginations to soar while being engaged in a classic!

My Students

My amazing students come from a variety of different backgrounds and each child is eager to learn new and exciting curriculum! I am lucky enough that I have 14 English language learners within my class of 25 to enrich our days with culture and new perspectives!

My Project

Engaging the students with a read-aloud is a great way to build a sense of community in a relaxed setting. Students feel free to think and share perspectives on the literature being read to them. It's so important that students feel a sense of community and belonging in a virtual setting. Literature is a strong connector between the teacher and students and gives the students a sense of belonging.

A read-aloud allows even the struggling readers to be completely engaged as well as gives them a voice.

If each student has a book in hand while the teacher is reading, this gives them an increased connection between their imagination and the text.
