My Project

Each year, our state library association nominates 15 titles for the Sunshine State Young Readers Association lists. These titles are quality texts to grow our readers. I buy two sets for our school library but our students enjoy reading them so much, they are never on the shelves. I would love to be able to provide each first and second-grade classroom with their own set of SSYRA Jr. books for their classroom library. This would provide more of an opportunity for students to read the texts.

I have seen students' love of reading bloom from starting their reading journeys with these book lists.

This year alone, I've had many second graders encouraging their friends to check out this year's books and read them together because they enjoyed them so much.

After reading the SSYRA Jr. books, the students are encouraged to create art projects or video trailers about the books for our school SLAM showcase. It encourages understanding of texts while also allowing students to show their creative and artistic talents.
