My Project

Social Emotional Learning is one of the most necessary foundations in school readiness a student can have. In my self-contained K-2 Special Education classroom, students are instructed on the general education standards and while also developing the social-emotional, communication, self-regulation, and independence skills they need to be successful at school.

This project will provide my students with engaging, hands-on social-emotional learning resources, including the complete “A Little SPOT of…” series, as well as calming sensory tools.

These resources will give my students concrete ways to recognize and name their feelings, understand how emotions affect their bodies and behavior, practice calming strategies, and communicate their needs appropriately.

For many of my students, learning to manage big emotions is just as important as learning to read, write, or solve a math problem. With these tools, I can create meaningful opportunities for students to practice self-regulation and problem-solving in a safe and supportive environment. As they develop these skills, they will become more confident, independent learners who are better prepared to participate, connect with peers, and thrive in a general education classroom.
