This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a small school with one teacher per grade and there are twenty-eight students in my class. My students are low income from Spanish speaking homes, but are very motivated and well behaved. They devour knowledge and opportunities that they are given. Their enthusiasm is infectious. Everyone who meets them is charmed by them! We need more books to read in small group reading instruction. Also, another area that is often challenging is writing. The journals on the list will help to develop grade level skills.

My Project

Almost all of my students and their families live at the poverty line and need books to read. I have a classroom library that is small and the books are not at the most appropriate learning level for my students. The ability to provide books to kids is invaluable! I am constantly working to find more books, especially chapter books and reader sets to read with small groups of students. Then, in addition, by adding more advanced books to my library, I am also able to send books home with students for them to read with their families and complete their homework.
