My Students

The students in my alternative program are independent and already tackling adult life while still in high school. They are searching for better ways to take control of their lives and to find success. Part of the program's focus is to equip each student with the skills they need to navigate difficult situations and to make good decisions.

These young adults are winning each day that they choose to stay in school when it would be easier to take some pressure off of their lives by dropping out.

Each student is courageous, intelligent, strong, and resilient. I'm so proud to be working alongside them.

My Project

Students in the Alternative Learning program will read and discuss the book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" together. These students are from low-income households, live independently from parents, and have adult obligations like jobs, paying bills, or caring for small children or family members. Students will use what they learn to fuel changes in their lives in and out of school.

After reading the first section, the students are hooked.

For the first time, they are seeing tangible examples of the ways their habits are impacting their lives. They want to change their bad habits. This book will be a tool that will help them grow. We hope it will be the start of a new journey for them.
