My Project

As a fifth grade teacher, I am always looking for ways to build students' background knowledge, strengthen our classroom community, and increase reading achievement. One of the most effective ways to do all of that is through consistent read alouds.

Read alouds are a powerful instructional strategy.

They are necessary in an upper elementary classroom. They allow all learners to access the text. They help build content based vocabulary.

The books on our project list include titles that will enhance our current social studies units. There's also titles that fifth graders will connect with. I know that student engagement matters and these additions to my read aloud library will provide another opportunity for students to experience history.
