With the magnifying glasses and microscope, students have explored the hidden details of the world around them with joy and curiosity. We explored our skin and blood cells as part of our Health unit.\r\n\r\nYour support made this possible and will impact their learning for years to come. This timeless classic enriches their literacy experiences and encourages a deeper understanding of the world around them.\r\nThis impact statement highlights the key benefits of students engaging with the book:\r\n\r\nReading Motivation: Dahl's unique and engaging storytelling style captivates young readers, fostering a lifelong love of books.\r\n\r\nImaginative Play: The fantastical world of giants, dreams, and whimsical language ignites students' imaginations and encourages creative thinking.\r\n\r\nCharacter Development: The BFG, despite his size and appearance, embodies kindness and courage, providing positive role models for students.\r\n\r\nSocial-Emotional Learning: Themes of friendship, overcoming fear, and standing up to bullies offer valuable life lessons that resonate with students.\r\n\r\nLanguage Enrichment: Dahl's distinctive vocabulary and playful wordplay expand students' language skills and appreciation for the power of words.\r\n\r\nThe students all enjoy stepping away from the district reading series to enjoy a novel study. During the novel study, I read the novel aloud to the students and we discuss the story as a whole group. The students complete comprehension activities after each chapter. Some comprehension skills that we review are main idea, inference, cause and effect, problem and solution, compare and contrast, theme, etc. We also delve into voice, figurative language, author's purpose, etc. The students enjoy discussing the story and predicting what happens in the next chapter.\r\n\r\nThe students love having the actual book in their hands because it makes a difference in being able to locate the answers to comprehension questions more quickly and effectively. Thank you so very much for providing my students with this valuable resource of having a book in their hands.","fullyFundedDate":1733257078865,"projectUrl":"project/a-whimsical-journey-with-the-bfg/8958298/","projectTitle":"A Whimsical Journey with The BFG","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Pearson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8889114"},{"teacherId":9117526,"projectId":8643609,"letterContent":"I cannot begin to thank you enough for your generous donation to my 2nd grade classroom. My students are oh so very thankful for contributing to our classroom! The students use our new polka dot classroom rug daily. We have our morning meetings at the front of the classroom and students have a comfy spot to sit during our meetings. We also use the carpet during any lesson we start at the front of the classroom. When waiting for busses at the end of the day, we have a place to gather as well. They also now have a basket to hold our classroom cushions.
