My Students

My kids primarily live in middle class to low income homes. They are working families that have low paying jobs. Opportunities for vacations and travel beyond trips to the grocery store are fairly limited. Many of my children are being raised foster homes, by grandparents, or single parents. Nine out of 20 students have a parent who is incarcerated.

My goal is to provide an environment where the kids feel loved, accepted, and can flourish, regardless of home life.

I have been a teacher for 17 years, and I love working with disadvantaged families. My compassion stems from my own difficult upbringing, and I feel that my experiences bring a special perspective to working with my kids and their families.

My Project

Most days we go outside for recess. When it's too cold or rainy, I have activities in the classroom for the kids to do. They include wood blocks, foam blocks, free drawing, and building LEGO creations.

With the current state of the world in regard to the COVID-19 outbreak, school, recess, and life in general have been drastically changed.

Along with the online and paper and pencil work I am providing, I would like to also give kids that much needed brain break that is familiar, by providing a small LEGO kit to each of them. Thanks for your consideration.
