This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a title one school located in Detroit, MI. My students have not had an art class in years. The principal has been there for a few years now and she has not had an art teacher at the school. Art is new for these kids, and it's exciting for them to experience the arts for the first time. They have enjoyed coming to class and to be able to experiment with new types of media. My students rock!
My Project
With the materials being purchased with the supplies that I am requesting I am able to do some printmaking and weaving with my students. Students will be able to explore new art techniques with the looms and the use of the plastic needles. We will be looking at various weaving art masters and compare our weaving with theirs. The rubber rollers, X-Acto knives, and green cutting mats will be used for printmaking. Will be looking at various printmaking artist, and be able to make multiple prints of our own work. Students tend to get excited when they can make copies of their artwork and the best way to do that is through printmaking.
