We want you to know that we appreciate all the snacks and the science stem games. These games do help our students to be more engaged in their learning. More importantly, these provide opportunities for students to learn. They are excited to come to the classroom and rush to get these things to use. Students in the lower grades are asking to come and see me so they too can \"play\" with the games. All the games help our students to learn and promote STEM. These also allow students to see a science classroom that is engaging and hands-on learning. Students unfortunately do not get this opportunity in our district for many reasons. We are given a curriculum without many materials to keep kids engaged. We are struggling to keep kids wanting to learn especially in science. Science is hands-on learning and they still need to play while learning. \r\nHaving treats is also a way to help support and promote students to answer questions. At the beginning, students were too afraid to take a chance to answer questions. Even simple questions like what they know about something. Once I gave out a treat to students, it had a domino effect for more students to take a risk and answer. We now have students who are willing to try to answer. The treats helped me promote this and allowed kids to try and answer. We went from no one to majority of the class willing to try. This also in turn increased student success in the classwork as well as building better classroom communities and team work. \r\nLastly, I am thrilled to be a science teacher when I see how excited the kids are and how they don't want to leave the classroom. Some of my most challenging kids are now 'burrowing\" materials to take home and return the next day. I am thankful that you have helped make a difference and support our kids to see beyond the obstacles and challenges they face every day and that together we are showing them and giving them the means that promotes a drive within them to want to do better and be better. I now have students that thought they weren't smart enough to be an engineer or even a doctor. They see their potential now. They are also getting opportunities to use and solve problems in ways that go beyond the textbook reading and answering questions. Thank you for helping me promote thinkers and stem students. I know by implanting this in them now, they will continue to continue in their education and eventually take a career path in science fields. \r\nTHANK YOU\r\nMrs. Kainaya and grade 5 to 8 students in Detroit, Michigan.","fullyFundedDate":1758231311416,"projectUrl":"project/supporting-science-education/9543225/","projectTitle":"Supporting Science Education","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kainaya","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp686884_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1644443057951","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/686884"},{"teacherId":686884,"projectId":9097460,"letterContent":"My students and I extend our greatest appreciation to your support for our science materials. We want you to know that we are using all the materials in our classroom and even got to take them home to explore with. During our group time, the students got to explore, build, and learn about various content material. We also used the games during our family fun night. The laminating pouches came in handy throughout the school. We got to laminate posters and student work so it can be mounted on the walls and safely displayed. This gave others opportunities to ask about our learning and made other students interested in learning more in science class. Our science posters about women in science, earth science, and others gave us opportunities to see and learn about how our community can be successful. \r\n\r\nWe are so thankful for the activities that helped us to explore more about our earth and about the life and physical sciences. Students were very excited as they unpacked and opened the boxes. They were so eager to use the materials. The smiles on their faces said it all. I know they are truly grateful for having opportunities to learn through hands on activities and materials. Our students need that and they are better learners as a result of these opportunities. We will continue to use the posters as a resource as well as having it posted in the classroom for daily exposure. Our materials are used in our group activities as well as in small group explorations. These also give students opportunities to work together and collaborate. We will continue to use all the materials in the units taught and as a guide and resource to help us be proficient learners! One specific moment was during a small group math activity, where students chose their own seating. They were relaxed, collaborated easily, and stayed focused longer than usual. It allowed me to work more closely with individual groups while students supported each other.Their faces lit up! Many students rushed to try out the new seating options, and several commented that it felt \"like learning at home.\" That excitement carried into their lessons—they were more eager to participate and contribute. The flexible setting continues to be very impactful. Students are now able to relax and participate in small group activities with confidence. The next step is for them to use this setup during our upcoming project-based learning unit, where they'll work in rotating teams to solve real-world math problems and present their solutions.
