My Students

I am a lucky teacher of 16 first grade students who come to school eager to learn and experience new things with each other. We are a big classroom community who work together in everything that we do. We are a family.

I work at a Title I school in York, Pennsylvania.

Our school population is made up of more than 50% of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many students participate in our backpack program, where they take home a backpack filled with food every other weekend.

My first grade classroom is one of the inclusion classrooms and I love learning from them every day. These students come to school and work hard! Education is not a one size fits all. Despite the trauma and adversity many have faced, they continue to face each day with their love of learning. My goal as a teacher is to continue to foster the need of students and prepare students for their life long dream in the work field. All students learn in a different way and need to feel comfortable.

My Project

The new materials in this project will be a fantastic addition to our classrooms STEM bins. My students have been interested in magnets and coding so many things. The hands on materials are items my students have asked for to continue our think, design, build, create process that we explore daily in first grade.

Our class starts our day with STEM bins each day.

Each day brings a new challenge and these kids are learning and growing with each task they are given. The collaboration and creativity among 6 and 7 years olds is fantastic and I can't wait to continue to build upon their interests and watch them grow!
