My Project
WHS ASL Concurrent Enrollment/Level 4 students continue building an inclusive community one sign at a time! We need books for our students to complete this project.
This project began two years ago and will continue annually.
ASL students translate children’s books from written English to ASL. These books focus on ASL, Deaf Culture, deafblindness, and being deaf or hard of hearing. This project focuses on educating elementary students and promoting inclusion.
Book pages are scanned, and students use editing software to add a video on each page, translating the English words to ASL for ASL users.
At the end of each book, ASL students teach the reader sign language based on content from the book. The written content is voiced for full inclusion and to help promote reading!
QR codes are created and will be placed on the book making it easy for elementary students to scan the code and view the video.
When the project is complete, ASL students visit district elementary schools during media time to promote their book. Elementary students love the books and the visits!
There are currently 48 completed projects. This Donor's Choose project aims to donate one set of 48 books to each of the 16 elementary schools in our district. Your support is greatly appreciated!
