With many new students arriving from Puerto Rico, my students will need extra support and supplies. My students have been affected by Hurricane Maria, some some students have lost their homes, family members and more. I would like my students to feel welcome to the class by getting all my students matching shirts to help us show we are a team. We have field day every year and I really would like each student to participate in the activities. The students at my school come from a working class neighborhood that is very well integrated. They are every color of the rainbow and come from multiple backgrounds. One thing that they have in common is that many of their families are working multiple jobs and having trouble making ends meet.
Teachers, counselors, and other staff members frequently purchase basic need items for students who are not able to receive them from their families.
This school uses a program of catching students doing the right thing. There is an ongoing conversation about "being a bucket filler" by doing good things. They receive incentive "bucks" for good behavior and deeds.
My Project
With field day coming up I would like to get matching T-shirts for my students to have for the competition. On field day we do multiple sports all day. These shirts will help identify us as a team and we can working together. Many of my students at this time do not have enough funds to buy their own T-shirts.
I think when students feel that they are part of a team they can achieve anything.
Our school also has a spirit day every Friday where they can wear red or blue. Our team shirt will be blue so it’ll fall under the category of the students will be able to wear and participate in our spirit days at school. When students feel like they are part of a team they will learn better and perform better in all areas.
