Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Relevant, exciting, engaging. Hands on experiences are necessary to engage students, open their minds, and ignite their passion for science.
I teach at a school where a high percentage of students attending the school are from low-income families.
Over 70% of its population is eligible for the free and reduced lunch program and/or serves families where neither of the students' parent's has received a high school diploma. Over 40% of the student population also consists of English Language Learners. Despite the additional challenges that these students face, they come to school and want to succeed. They love learning. They love learning Physics! I want to offer engaging science projects to keep my students interested in Physics, build their problem-solving skills, and keep them competitive in this global society where STEM skills are highly valued.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will provide students the opportunity to utilize solar energy to power a car. We will investigate the advantages of using a sustainable energy resource such as solar, wind, or hydro power, to our environment. We will also apply the engineering and design process during the construction of the solar cars. Students can think, build, and find solutions to experimental problems. The solar car kits will provide a fun and exciting environment for studying and applying motion, forces, energy, circuits, and alternative energy resources. Students will need to apply the engineering process to design and improve their cars over the project timeline. Students will need to define problems, plan and carry out scientific investigations, collect and analyze data, analyze solutions, and communicate information.
This equipment will help students understand the need for environmentally friendly decisions and provide an opportunity to employ an alternative energy resource to power their cars.
These materials will help me provide a rich, engaging, and meaningful experience.
When they see that our project is funded by you, they will be impressed that you cared enough to donate.
