Building a STEM-ulating Career Lab

Help me give my students a STEM Lab that is warm, inviting, and will make them comfortable with learning new skills they may not be comfortable with.

My Project

I have recently started a College and Career Ready STEM lab in my middle school. The goal of this lab is to give my middle schoolers a hands-on curriculum that will help them learn about different STEM careers before they go to high school. Hopefully, this will help more students have a better understanding of what career fields interest them, and they can begin to tailor their High School education to better their chances of getting into trade schools, 2-year, and 4-year college programs.

So far, I have four of the Paxton Patterson Career Modules, and now I just need a more inviting space for my students to truly immerse themselves in the different materials.

I want them to be comfortable in their environment so they will be motivated and excited about the different modules, even the ones they may not be specifically interested in. Using the partitions, I can close off the students from distractions, and inside each cubicle, the student will be fully immersed in the materials, using the wonderful decorations.

While they are working, having modular seating such as stools allows them to set up their seating arrangements in a way that facilitates the most engagement and learning with each and every activity. Students learn best in classrooms that they are excited to enter. My goal is to make the Career lab, the room where a student can look back and say "That's where I learned that I wanted to be a _______ when I grew up."
